A MEAL FIT FOR THE KING….Elvis That Is!

ASBURY PARK, N.J., June 22, 2006 – Spectators at Asbury Park’s recent “Sensational Sixties Celebration” got the low down on the Elvis-inspired World Fried Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwich-Eating Contest. Ian “The Invader” Hickman, of Sterling, Va., walked (or waddled) off with the big prize of $300 and an Elvis Teddy Bear after consuming 14 of the sandwiches, or just over three pounds, in seven minutes and 37 seconds.

Also joining in on the day’s fun was The Black River Circus Band performing Rock ‘N Roll favorites, Elvis impersonator Michael Marchitto and Beatles Tribute Band Strawberry Fields, comprised of former members of Beatlemania, performing in concert at the Paramount Theatre on the boardwalk.

Another highlight of the weekend, the first of many entertainment event-packed weekends this summer, was the annual “Asbury Park Pro Beach Ultimate Frisbee Tournament.” Teams competed on “playing fields” marked out on the beach next to Convention Hall for $4,000 in cash prizes and trophies.

The events were sponsored by the historic Convention Hall/Paramount Theatre and Asbury Partners, LLC, master developer of the Oceanfront Asbury waterfront redevelopment.
