While winter’s chill may be settling in on the beaches of Asbury Park, New Jersey, the entertainment scene there is heating up with a number of events being planned at the historic Convention Hall/Paramount Theatre (CHP) complex. The 2005 entertainment calendar will kick off with two family events in January. The Hoop Group, the largest basketball instruction organization in the world, will host its Fifth Annual “Battle on the Boardwalk” on Saturday and Sunday, January 15 and 16, 2005, at Convention Hall. The two-day competition will showcase New Jersey’s top high school basketball teams.

On January 22, Convention Hall will be transformed into a colorful big-top, as the world-renowned Moscow State Circus comes to town. Celebrating the rich tradition of Russian circus arts, attendees will witness agile acrobats springing from shoulder to shoulder, fearless aerialists sauntering on the highwires, the jaunty swing of trapeze artists, the dazzle of clowns, tigers, elephants and much, much more. There will be three performances, starting at 1, 4 and 7 p.m. respectively. Please call the box office for ticket prices. Tickets to these events can be purchased in advance at the box office or at the door on the day of the event. For more details and ticket information, call (732) 775-3533.

Looking forward, CHP is working on a diversified, pre-summer entertainment lineup, with highlights to feature a battle of the bands, a number of rock concerts, performances by the American Theatre of the Arts for Youth, the return of the ever-popular Garden State Film Festival and more. Located at 1300 Ocean Avenue on the Asbury Park boardwalk, CHP is operated by Oceanfront Asbury Entertainment.

February 5, 2005 - Asbury Park celebrates rebirth - Mardi Gras style!
The second installment of fantastic festivities under the stars

On Saturday, February 5, nearly 40 businesses in burgeoning downtown Asbury Park will, once again, band together under the banner of the "First Saturday Night" event series and keep their lights on deep into the night. It's a celebration of community spirit and commerce that won the hearts of approximately 1500+ people during the first event held this past December. The event takes its cue from the perennially popular "1st Friday" gallery tours common within New York and Philadelphia art circles.

The Mardi Gras theme of the forthcoming event will be supported by live music, DJ's, food and drink, one-night-only super-sales, dining deals, art shows, citywide trolley tours, loft tours, restaurant package giveaways and much more.

The true merit of "First Night" is its collaborative nature conceived and cemented by the merchants themselves. This emblem of personal investment is what caught the attention of City Hall, and now local governing agencies such as the Urban Enterprise Zone and The Greater Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce are supporting the events with fiscal and human resources.

In addition, shoppers will be treated to a fun-filled trolley ride being sponsored by Asbury Partners, LLC, master developer for the 56-acre Oceanfront Asbury waterfront redevelopment, and Oceanfront Asbury sub-developers Paramount Homes, Westminster Communities and Metro Homes. The trolley will run for three hours, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., with stops for people to explore the variety of participating businesses as well as the waterfront redevelopment area. Incredible percussion-based band, M'Zume will perform on the trolley to open the event, and a tour guide will explain highlights of the city's magnificent transformation.

Once again, event promoters are dually proud to feature icons of downtown retail resilience such as Mr. Fashion and House of Modern Living while welcoming a new wave of merchants poised for staying power. The "First Saturday Night" series ventures to afford people a fee-free unique entertainment alternative during what can be a long, quiet winter at the shore. Merchants want Asbury Park to be known as a wholly viable year round community featuring exclusive retail experiences, top tier dining and outstanding living space in the vein of a SOHO or SOUTH STREET ... with one magnificent bonus, the Atlantic Ocean.

Event maps will be available at Rock Paper Scissors Gallery (716 Cookman Avenue), Ruby Clothing & Finds (723 Cookman Avenue) and other participating locations. For further information, please contact Doug Forbes, 732.897.1111 or doug@gorockpaperscissors.com.

February 5, 2005 - Oceanfront Asbury Co-Sponsors 'mardi Gras' Trolley For Asbury Park's
                                   First Saturday Night Event

As part of Asbury Park's upcoming Mardi Gras celebration on Saturday night, February 5, shoppers will be treated to a fun-filled trolley ride that will transport them along the downtown area and provide them with a historic tour. The trolley is being sponsored by Asbury Partners, LLC, master developer for the 56-acre Oceanfront Asbury redevelopment and Oceanfront Asbury sub-developers: Paramount Homes, Westminster Communities and Metro Homes.

"The merchants have created a wonderful event, with shopping, entertainment and festivities that highlight the exciting progress of the City's downtown center," noted Larry Fishman, chief operating officer of Asbury Partners. "The trolley will run for three hours from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. with stops for people to enjoy more than 35 restaurants and shops that are staying open until 10 p.m. for this event. A percussion-based band M'Zume will perform on the trolley to open the event, and a tour guide will explain the historical highlights of this magnificent city by the sea."

The Mardi Gras celebration will be marked with free wine and hors d'oeuvres, super sales, live music, art shows, giveaways, open houses and loft tours, and much more.

This is the second celebration of "First Saturday Night" in Asbury Park, building on the success of the December event, which attracted more than 1,500 people.

"We are all very excited about the addition of the trolley in February," said Fishman. "There are so many wonderful events and entertainment venues in Asbury Park now, from the summer happenings on the boardwalk, to the year-around concerts and sports events at Convention Hall, Paramount Theatre, and the many new nightclubs, restaurants and shops in the City. Asbury Park is once again becoming the focal point of exciting leisure activities and happenings for the entire region, and events like First Saturday Night make it a true year-round destination."
